Resources for

Pleasure

A guidebook, a workbook, and instructional videos to support the lifelong journey of sexual and erotic growth.

We all exist because of an orgasm.

Our sexuality is a powerful, foundational element of our humanity, and there are infinite ways that sexuality can be expressed through us. I believe that we all have the ability to have an informed, empowered, pleasurable relationship with our own sexuality.

Unfortunately, we live in a culture that tends to give us more messages of shame and denial than empowerment and pleasure. Most of us have experienced enough shame and trauma in our lives that we've become numb, repressed, or secretive in our relationship with our own sexuality.

The good news is that there are amazing bodies of work, lineages of practice, and ongoing research that all seek to help us come into a more informed, empowered, pleasurable relationship with our sexuality.

My approach is informed by a whole-systems approach to understanding the relationship between our physiology and our psychology, and rooted in the Shangpa Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Tantra.

Sexology, Sex Therapy Techniques, & Tantra

Sexuality is an incredibly unique part of who we each are as humans, and it is shaped by many factors, including the experiences of pleasure and trauma that unfold throughout our lives. My approach to working with my clients to improve their sex lives is grounded in scientific knowledge of our physiology, nervous system, and psychology, as well as the subtle wisdom of the Tantric wisdom and practices of the Shangpa Kagyu Lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. Whether you're seeking sex therapy support as an individual or as  couple, seeking support with sexual performance anxiety or increasing sexual pleasure, there is support available to you.
Keep reading to learn more about my training and approach, to see if we may be a good fit for one another!

Sex & Tantra

Sexology Questions

What's the connection between Tantra and sex?

Many, but not all, paths of Tantra teach about sex. Unfortunately, the popularity of NeoTantra has created a perception of Tantra being all about sex, that simply isn't accurate.

Tantra is about everything.

Tantra refers to lineage-based teachings that help us to embrace the totality of life, and develop a healthy, integrated relationship with areas of life that most social institutions throughout history and around the world have deemed taboo.

Sex is one of the key areas of our lives that causes suffering, shame, and disconnection because of our cultural patterning. Therefore, many lineages of Tantra do teach valuable practices that can help us move into a healing relationship with sex.

Things to look for when considering working with a Tantra practitioner:

Lineage

For thousands of years, Tantric practices and teachings have been transmitted with high standards of ethics, understanding, and accountability in clear, unbroken lineages from teacher to student across generations. Today, many people learn a few practices and begin calling themselves a Tantra coach without any real qualifications or accountability.
Ask about lineage.

Motivation

The motivation behind Tantra practice should always be rooted in compassion. Without compassion and care for not only ourselves, but all beings, the power of Tantric practices can become a dangerous tool for the Ego.
Ask about motivation.

Ethics

There are far too many ethical violations in the modern world, particularly in Yoga and Tantra spaces. It's vital that we be aware of the patterns and red flags of sexual misconduct and abuses of power. A Tantra practitioner should have a clear code of conduct that they share with you at the beginning of your work together, and should indicate to whom they are accountable if they are in violation of that code of conduct.

If you would like to review my code of conduct before we consider working together, simply say so in the contact form below, and I will share it with you.

What Kind of Tantra do I practice?

I am a certified practitioner of Authentic Tantra® which is a Somatic Healing modality within the Tibetan Shangpa Kagyu Lineage.

Authentic Tantra® is a trauma-informed holistic healing modality designed to awaken, heal and integrate body, mind, spirit, and sex.

The philosophy of this approach is simple: at your core is your True Self, and that True Self is whole, compassionate, and ever evolving. But because of the conditioning, trauma, and shame in our lives, layers of obscurations build up over time making it harder to live in integrity with your True Self.

The healing modality of Authentic Tantra® uses meditation, movement, pleasure, and connection to clear away the "blocks to bliss" that keep you from living your best life.

When you dive into these practices you will:

  • Be empowered with knowledge of your own physical body, subtle energy body, and nervous system.

  • Learn how to work with Tibetan 5 Elements Tantra to heal and activate your energy body.

  • Experience more pleasure and joy in every area of your life.

  • Create your very own solo tantric healing practice, which can then be brought into other relationships in your life.

Effective and ethical Tantric instruction is all about a healthy, balanced, and sacred approach to sexuality and holistic healing. Unlike many styles of yoga and meditation, the modality of Authentic Tantra® embraces human sexuality and its innate potential for healing, when it is honored as sacred and practiced with awareness, compassion, and loving-kindness.

The Institute of Authentic Tantra® is the only government accredited Tantra institute in North America.

Becoming a
Trauma-Informed Lover

I believe that we all can be Trauma-Informed Lovers.

What does that mean?

Have you ever had a sexual or romantic experience in which things were going well until, well, they weren't?

Did you or a partner freeze up?

Try to leave suddenly?

Get triggered?

Zone out?

These can all be signals of a trauma response, and they happen all. the. time. The most important thing to remember in these moments is that what comes up in the triggered person might have little to do with the other person, but by being in an intimate space with someone experiencing a trauma response, we have an opportunity and a responsibility to hold space for them to move through a trauma trigger in a way that can be healing.

Of course, this is not something we are prepared for by our dominant culture. Each of us carries our own unique set of shame, conditioning, and trauma around sex. Becoming a Trauma-Informed Lover is primarily a journey of diving into own relationship with and understanding of trauma well enough that you can be an active participant in your own, and others' healing.

The Tools of a

Trauma-Informed Lover:

  • Creating Sacred Space

  • Active Listening

  • Polyvagal Theory

  • Nonviolent Communication

  • 5 Methods of Sexual Communication

  • Anatomy Education

  • Non-penetrative massage

  • Grounding Practices

The key to being a Trauma-Informed Lover is learning how to hold space in uncomfortable moments, to listen deeply to our own bodies and one another, to be aware of the true needs of the moment, and to be patient with ourselves and others.
